Working With Goals

When was the last vacation that you took?  It doesn’t matter the answer of the destination but think about how much planning that you put into the trip.  The research for the flight, the accommodations, the date and who was attending.  Now ask yourself when the last time you put that much planning into your personal life?

As a species we are results driven and focused but not all of us satisfy our intellect towards our goals and passions.  We find other outlets whether it be living for the weekend, living vicariously through television shows with continuing storylines, or by analyzing our past experiences.  Consider someone who wishes to lose weight.   Most of us wish that we were in better shape so we buy a product off an infomercial, go on a strenuous diet, or buy a membership to our local gym.  We know what our desired final outcome to be but what happens to a lot of us is that we don’t achieve that result soon enough and then our original conviction waivers and we falter.

To be more effective in areas of life we can decide what it is that we truly wish out of life and then work backwards and set measuring markers to see that we are on track to achieve what we as individuals truly want.  This can help keep us on track so that we don’t lose heart.  Goals could almost be called plans.  The fact is that many of us put more effort into planning a weeklong vacation than we put into our goals and ambitions in life whether they be personal or business related.
